Redfield calls itself the “Pheasant Capital of the World”

The city of Redfield is located in the Northeastern part of South Dakota. It has a population of over 2,300 people and is in the heart of pheasant hunting country.

History

The city of Redfield was established in 1878 and is in Spink County. Redfield became a rapidly growing town in the region – due in part to its status as a railroad center. The town was a crossroads of two railroad companies – Chicago and North Western Railway and Milwaukee Road Railroad. The railroads brought supplies, people, animals and also transported crops back east.

Recreation and Community Activities

Redfield has everything you are looking for in a small community. The people are friendly and they have a ton of ammenities. During the summer months they have a great swimming pool, softball and baseball fields and two great city parks.

If you are looking for a place to relax Hav-A-Rest Park offers camping pads, picnic shelter, water, electricity, fishing, boat launch for Redfield Lake, playground and restrooms.

Possibly one of the biggest attractions to Redfield and the surrounding area is the great pheasant hunting. Redfield doesn’t claim themselves the “Pheasant Capital of the World” for nothing. Hunters flock to Redfield to bag their limit of pheasants.
