Vermillion is located in the southeastern corner of South Dakota near the intersection of Interstate 29 and South Dakota Highway 50. It lies atop a bluff along the last natural stretch of the beautiful and pristine Missouri River. Founded in 1859, Vermillion is a community known throughout the region for its friendliness, its historical significance, its beautiful setting, its area attractions and its educational resources. Various recreational activities abound, including bike paths, four city parks, an 18-hole golf course and much more. There are also many arts and entertainment events, plus festivals hosted by the Vermillion Area Chamber & Development Co., the University of South Dakota and the City of Vermillion throughout the year.
