Catch the Wave at Wild Water West, Sioux Falls, SD

Spending time poolside or splashing around on a hot day are summertime staples. But for a full day of aquatic adventures, Wild Water West water park, located just west of Sioux Falls, is the ultimate SD destination.

With water activities and pool options for all ages, it’s easy to stay cool at Wild Water West. The park’s main swimming pool includes alligator and log walks, water animals, and lily pads, and the pirate-themed “Caribbean Falls” dumps 1,000 gallons of water on its swimmers every five minutes.

A nearby baby pool offers shallow water, gentle fountains and water animals. However, it’s the 500,000-gallon wave pool that is truly irresistible. Nestled between tropical landscaping, picnic pavilions and shaded cabanas, the wave pool packs a punch of activity as swimmers of all ages ride the waves and splash around in the breaking surf.

If you’re feeling adventurous, challenge your companions to stay dry during bumper boats as you zip around the park’s “Shipwreck Lagoon.” The bumper boats are equipped with water sprayersso you can really drench your opponentsand the lagoon weaves in and out of the park’s mini-golf course.

Waterslides are the mainstay of any good waterpark, and riders contentedly wait in line to ride the park’s modest body and tube slides. However, if you can make it to the top of the 65-foot tower without psyching yourself out, the park also has two speed slides that plummet riders downwards at steep slopesto the safety of a refreshing pool, of course.

If you’re over 21, you won’t be able to resist the park’s swim-up bar. They offer a mix of alcoholic beverages, including fruity frozen cocktails, and direct access to the Lazy River. The waterway is a relaxing addition to the parkthat is, if you choose to float down the course’s tranquil corridor. Waterfalls and rapids are also around one bend, so choose your route wisely!

As well as its many water attractions, the park also offers dry entertainment in the form of mini-golf, go-karts, batting cages, sand volleyball and paintball, so you won’t be bored once you’ve had your fill of aquatic activities.
