SpearFish Camping – The Great Outdoors

Sometimes, a weekend spent “roughing it” can be a little too rough.

If you’re camping too far from any kind of civilization, you’re responsible for all your meals, whether it’s your morning coffee or your evening dinner. If you find that you’ve forgotten to pack something vital, it can take hours to drive to a store to get supplies. If you have small children, trying to find ways to occupy them while you relax in the beauty of nature can be anything but peaceful.

Enter the Spearfish City Campground.

The year-round campground is right next to the D.C. Booth Historic Fish Hatchery and Spearfish City Park. It’s within walking or biking distance to downtown Spearfish, which includes numerous restaurants, coffeehouses and shops.

There are 150 tent sites and 62 full-hookup sites. Hookup sites you can reserve. Tent sites are first come, first serve. If you’re still not sold on camping within city limits, consider that the campground is right near the bike path as well as the city’s 27-hole disc golf course. Plus, running right along the edge of the campground is Spearfish Creek, one of the best trout-fishing streams in the Hills.

And if you want more modern conveniences, the campground also offers free showers as well as Internet access. Which means, if you’re so inclined, you can update your Facebook status about your awesome camping experience, all while enjoying a s’mores made over your campfire.

Who says camping can’t have it all?
