1880 Train Tours

1880 Train

1880 Train is located in the Black Hills. Great to do with the whole family!

Perhaps the most authentic way to experience the majestic beauty of western South Dakota’s Black Hills, the 1880 Train is a fully functioning, antique steam locomotive. Children and adults will enjoy the train’s steam-puffing engines and long, low whistle. The locomotive provides plenty of history and fun in and of itself, but when paired with breathtaking views of lush forests, pristine lakes, abandoned mines, and diverse wildlife, the 1880 Train provides an exhilarating, can’t-miss sightseeing adventure.

Traveling through the mountains of South Dakota by train affords a unique, authentic view of the state’s scenic landscapes and terrain. Sightseeing by train lets you experience the region from the vantage point of the pioneers who first settled the area during the 18th century mining boom.

Located in Hill City near Mount Rushmore and Crazy Horse Memorial, the 1880 Train runs between Hill City and Keystone, with train depots in both towns. Each one-way trip provides two hours of exhilarating sightseeing. Both stations boast fully equipped gift shops loaded with unique mementos, souvenirs, and South Dakotan artifacts. The 1880 Train Company actively restores old, rundown train cars into the majestic masterpieces they once were.

For adults, a round-trip train ticket is $22.00, with a one-way ticket costing $18.00. Children ages 3-12 years pay $12.00 for a round-trip ticket and $10.00 for one-way. Kids 2 and under ride for free. Passengers have a choice between cars that are open and cars that are closed and have viewing windows. Discounts are available for groups of 20 or more. For an up-to-date schedule of arrival and departure times, you can visit http://1880train.com/train-schedule.html.  Rides on the 1880 Train are often included as components of more comprehensive sightseeing packages.
